ISH 2013: Laufen lifts the veil

Posted on 06 February 2013 by PR-Gateway

The Swiss bathroom specialist Laufen will present itself from 12 to 16 March at the ISH in Frankfurt/Main (hall 3.1/stand B 51) with a fireworks display of new products and innovations. One of the highlights will be the products made from the new material SaphirKeramik (Sapphire Ceramics), by means of which the company has set out to initiate a fundamental change in the design vocabulary of ceramics. But new fittings and further developments of existing product lines, such as the latest additions to the Palomba collection, will also be on display at the Swiss bathroom specialist”s stand.

ISH 2013: Laufen lifts the veil

At the ISH 2013, Laufen is lifting the veil from its new SaphirKeramik just slightly by showing two very delicate washbasin bowls made of the innovative material as pilot examples. Thanks to its extreme hardness and bending strength, SaphirKeramik permits extremely thin-walled designs and narrow radii without compromising on stability and break resistance. Wall thicknesses of no more than about 4 mm and defined edges with radii of 1 to 2 mm are possible. “The ISH is the ideal platform for starting a revolution in the design of bathroom ceramics”, says Alberto Magrans, Senior Managing Director of Laufen, “and I am certain that we will surprise the industry with our novelties made of SaphirKeramik.” The outstanding level of innovation of the new ceramic material also impressed the expert jury, which granted this material the Designplus Award offered by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the German Design Council.

The washbasin bowls made of SaphirKeramik were created by the designer Andreas Dimitriadis based in Stuttgart (platinumdesign). “The new ceramic material from Laufen offers me unprecedented creative scope in design and requires a whole new way of thinking”, Dimitriadis comments enthusiastically. “We now think in terms of precise edges and slender wall thicknesses instead of surfaces and tolerances”. Of course the effect of the new “sapphire” basins on viewers also had to be considered anew, since they were to retain the natural, man-made character of ceramics in spite of all their preciseness, and feature well-balanced, harmonious proportions.

Laufen will also present two new series of fittings at the ISH, Cityplus and Twinplus, designed by Andreas Dimitriadis as well. Cityplus is a genuine icon of urban lifestyle, which stands out by its generous surface design and clean, horizontal lines. The Twinplus stands out by its slender, puristic geometries, which please the eye in bathroom interiors by their architectural unpretentiousness. Both series of fittings include the complete range and, thanks to their excellent functionality, offer users great convenience and top quality in the bathroom.

The latest additions to the Palomba Collection, which have already won several awards, will also be shown at the ISH in their entirety for the first time in Germany. The models taking the centre stage among the novelties will be the floorstanding Menhir washbasin, which recalls a rock formed and polished by the tides, and a unique bathtub with dynamic, asymmetrical geometries and a high back. Four new countertop washbasins, two washbasin bowls and a range of new bathroom furniture are grouped around these main protagonists. “The new products of the Palomba Collection are only the tip of the iceberg”, says Magrans, “since our portfolio includes many more new solutions, designs and innovations – our visitors will be in for a few surprises!”

120 year passion in bathroom culture. The washbasins, bath tubs and shower plates, WCs, Bidets, bathroom furniture, accessoires and faucets of the Swiss bathroom specialist bring design and quality on a high level to any bathroom.

The first premium-guide for luxury eco-fashion

Posted on 06 September 2012 by PR-Gateway

The old and dusty image of boring eco-look is about to be gone forever.

The first premium-guide for luxury eco-fashion
The new home of luxury eco-fashion

In the new online guide for sustainable fashion, only the best designers and the finest pieces are presented. It features all the fashion designers of the future in one place!

The “Future Fashion Guide” is celebrating its launch: Since the 1st of September 2012 there is a bilingual online portal with innovative usability and a magazine section. Transparency and up-to-date content are at the forefront, and offer visitors a valuable source of information for orientation in the pool of exclusive, sustainable designer brands. A Store Guide for easy to find eco-fashion boutiques, is also on board.

Non toxic, fairly and sustainably produced high-fashion is one of the big, upcoming trends. The old and dusty image of boring eco-looks is about to be gone forever. While small, exclusive designer labels bring more and more sustainable collections to the market, global players like Puma and H&M once in a while start small sustainable test series, to prepare for major changes in their production processes. The biggest fashion trend forecaster in the world (WGSN.com) sees a soon reached tipping point for the industry, where sustainable high-fashion is becoming a major trending topic.

The basic idea of ??the new portal is that switching to sustainable fashion should be as easy as choosing organic food or switching to green electricity.

For the first time fashion lovers can easily opt for a sustainable product of the same quality and aesthetics. Common prejudices against the style of eco-fashion are dispersed at the first glance of the front page.

The Future Fashion Guide would like to express sensuality and sensibility in a balance and open the door to the world of sustainable fashion world once and for all.

The stylistic range of the most desirable eco-brands is as great as their price-range. For small purses, as well as for the luxury customers there are highest quality products which are ethically and ecologically produced.

Among the better-known brands, there are also labels like Lanius (ladies), Atelier Awash (men) and Organic by John Patrick. But also AIKYOU (underwear), Junky (Upcycling from London) and edelziege (exlklusive cashmere-goat) are estimated at connoisseurs. Innovative newcomers such as Lykke & César (shoes from Portugal) are also represented in the guide.

Avant Garde is no longer a pure style attribute – Avant Garde gets a brand new, additional scene: The entire life cycle of a fashion product comes into focus and has to prove the innovation skills of the designers when it comes to eco-friendliness and philanthropy.

Stylistic trends will therefore be joined by values-trends in the future that will impose a extended demand for innovation on the fabric producers, and fashion designers.

For the discerning customer it gets easier and more enjoyable to wear fashion with a future, not least thanks to the new Future Fashion Guide.

Basista Printed Circuit Boards: Quality In, Quality Out.

Basista Printed Circuit Boards: Quality In, Quality Out.

Posted on 10 August 2012 by PR-Gateway

Modernization project to increase quality and performance is now complete.

Basista Printed Circuit Boards: Quality In, Quality Out.
Peter Basista with circuit board test product upon completion of the company?s modernization project

Basista Leiterplatten GmbH, based in Bottrop (Germany), specializes in the production of circuit board prototypes and small production runs of the highest quality. The circuit board manufacturer enjoys an outstanding reputation among its large client base. With the continual modernization of his company, Peter Basista not only guides the development of the market, he anticipates it.

Peter Basista, founder and owner of Basista -The PCB company-, works closely with developers and designers who devise circuit boards and layouts for new products. Indeed, until founding his own company in 1994, the state certified electronics technician worked on the development of microprocessors and control systems himself. This first-hand experience means he knows what he is talking about when consulting clients — he was once in their shoes himself.

Early in his career, Basista recognized a need for the production of circuit board prototypes and small production runs but found very few reliable and flexible providers. He soon founded a company for electronic developments and began to produce circuit board prototypes — although at first only for his own purposes. Later, as a way to reduce costs and make better use of the machinery, he began producing circuit boards for others.

Today the Basista Circuit Boards consultation team is completely client-oriented. The customer base is diverse, with clients stemming from every industry. Chip and electronics developers and the automotive industry constantly present the Basista Printed Circuit Board team with new demands; they are a driving force behind the company”s continual adaption to technical challenges. The team welcomes consultations prior to production. In these consultation sessions the peculiarities of circuit board production can be discussed, and layouts for specially-defined DFM (Design for Manufacturing) processes can be reviewed and optimized directly with the client.

Although such personal consultation means an additional step for the designers, it is a step gladly taken by these professionals. After all, a fully optimized draft results in shorter production times and, ultimately, financial savings. At this stage, the areas typically marked for improvement include distances and hole sizes, as well as the solder mask or component overlay. When not everything aligns precisely with the process and product demands of PCB production, the designers will often consult “public libraries” for assistance with layout challenges and technical values. For this reason, Basista Leiterplatten makes the DFM guidelines (the design regulations for circuit board layouts) available to its clients on the company website.

The meaningful exchange of ideas between engineers and clients means that Basista Leiterplatten” knowledge base is constantly updated and in tune with the latest developments. Likewise, the company”s meaningful investment strategies guarantee the latest technical standards are in place for planning and production — thus guaranteeing the highest level of product quality and production efficiency.

10-15 % of Basista Printed Circuit Boards” turnover is continually reinvested in development initiatives. This commitment to development is reflected in the recently completed year-long internal modernization project. The aim of this project was technological expansion, an increase in the efficiency of coating, etching, and solder mask development, as well as production flow and security.

To achieve a more efficient production flow, logistics was given a complete overhaul: Nearly every piece of machinery – each weighing in at nearly 1 ton – was repositioned and realigned. This meant repositioning the electrical, water, exhaust, and primary energy outlets of each machine as well.

Furthermore, together with the company Pill GmbH, Basista Circuit Boards developed a new production unit which meets its own increased standards and technical demands. The old unit was no longer adequate for the application of the new liquid photo-imageable solder mask. In order to fully utilize the outstanding properties of the new liquid solder mask, a completely new unit had to be developed.

With the new solder mask and new Pill machines, significantly finer solutions (up to 70 um) and significantly thinner coatings (25 um instead of the previous 50 um) can be applied. This improvement also translates into a shorter processing time, fewer chemicals and fewer materials, and thus results in financial and environmental savings throughout the entire circuit board production cycle.

The improvements don”t stop there, however. A 4m etching unit produced by another German manufacturer was customized according to Basista Circuit Boards” demands. Because the modifications desired by Basista were not part of the manufacturer”s standard portfolio, Basista Printed Circuit Boards completed the modifications themselves: The pump and drive systems were improved in order to produce thicker circuit boards – from 0,35 to 3,1 mm – in a more controlled and balanced manner.

Along with the production renovations, at the beginning of the year IT infrastructure and security underwent a complete update. This segment of the modernization project was also completed at the end of April. An additional hardware firewall was installed, new back-up systems were implemented, power supply safeguards were upgraded to the most modern standards and the network was expanded to gigabit-bandwidth.

Basista Leiterplatten has been ISO 9001/2000 certified for some time. But in order to document the maintenance of this high standard following the large modernization project, the system will be recertified this year.

For Peter Basista development is never complete. He is already planning the next stage. “Coming up next is a direct exposure unit for prototype production. This will further expand our product range. It represents significant innovation because we want to implement completely new technologies. Ultimately it will save us production time and material, and allow us to work faster, more efficiently and sustainably.”

Currently, an academic study is in the works which will analyze the environmental aspects of the recently completed modernization measures, as well as those of the upcoming exposure unit. It will also identify areas for further optimization. For Peter Basista, innovation is an investment which always pays off – investing time and money at the start results in savings and a quality product in the end.

KSregistry will be the backend provider for five new gTLD applications by Starting Dot

Posted on 12 July 2012 by PR-Gateway

The Paris based registry startup Starting Dot submitted five applications for community-based new gTLDs as part of the new gTLD program of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The Top Level Domains (TLDs) .ARCHI, .BIO, .SKI, .DESIGN and .IMMO will use the registry system of the German based provider KSregistry GmbH as technical framework. Starting Dot is a new registry managing a portfolio of new industry-related Top Level Domains that was founded in Paris in October 2011. KSregistry GmbH is a technical backend provider for customized registry operation; the company is a fully-owned subsidiary of the international domain registrar Key-Systems.

StartingDot’s strategy is to focus on TLDs dedicated to SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) categories for which a direct correlation between their trade and their domain name is important. The idea behind the five TLDs is to duplicate the rules of internet and domain industries in the registry policy in order to bring a more relevant Internet experience to users. For example with .BIO, the producers would have the opportunity to put forward their bio certification in their domain name and the consumers will find the same label they are used to see on the packings.

“We are glad to support Starting Dot’s applications with our KSregistry technology. The TLDs have great potential to become the central place of the respective community on the internet,” states Alexander Siffrin, CEO of KSregistry GmbH. “Starting Dot has selected KSregistry as its backend provider as KSregistry is part of an entrepreneurial and industrial minded group sharing the same values and is backed by a very strong IT team and provides a best-of-breed and resilient technology”, summarizes Godefroy Jordan, CEO of Starting Dot. “The appointment of KSregistry to provide the back-end registry services of our new gTLDs” portfolio will be a great contribution to the success of our company, because of KSregistry expertise, the quality of the team and our common approach of business.”

Starting Dot chose to apply for five community-based gTLDs to become a leading, new industry-related gTLD registry. Therefore, Starting Dot identified three major industries, which are Sports, Food and Farming as well as Housing and Real Estate. Staring Dot expects that the search experience on the internet will change with its TLDs. Users will rapidly identify the domain names carrying one of its string and prefer these destinations to the others. Staring Dot also anticipates potential Search Engine Optimization (SEO) benefits by operating a more targeted and relevant naming system that is clearly matched with the website content of the future domain names owners.

Starting Dot’s new TLDs are five of 31 new gTLD applications using KSregistry as technical provider. Among these 31 are nine additional generic TLDs as well as two geographical strings with German script/language. Furthermore, KSregistry will be the technical backend provider for 18 .BRAND TLDs.

About KSregistry

The KSregistry solution offers features and functions necessary for the operation of a registry. It is completely adapted to the customers’ needs. The customer-specific solution can be expanded and modified according to the needs changing over time in a cost effective manner. In addition, Key-Systems ensures a stable, state-of-the-art infrastructure for the registration and administration of domain names. By using Key-Systems” own SKYWAY DataCenter, fast reaction times and full process control are guaranteed. The complete design is based on a TIER III architecture which guarantees maximum security for all services. The service is directed at operators of existing ccTLDs, applicants for new gTLDs, and companies planning to establish their name or brand as a new TLD.

About Starting Dot

Founded in October 2011 in Paris (France), Starting Dot is a new registry business developing a portfolio of five new Top Level Domains (TLDs) dedicated to major industries: .SKI, .IMMO, .DESIGN, .ARCHI and .BIO. Starting Dot aims to help online businesses more distinctively express their purpose in their online brands and reach deeper into their consumer and business audiences. The company has been founded by two French internet veterans, Godefroy Jordan (Chairman) and Guillaume Buffet (Managing Director) and has finalized in April 2012 its first fund-raising of 1.5 million Euros with Alven Capital, 123 Venture and a group of private investors from France and Germany. The modern and yet timeless appearance of the lettering embodies innovation and long-term stability. The modified and still lowercase symbolized “e” stands for electronic – the core business of MAZeT. This element accompanied MAZeT for the past years, since the foundation and has been a necessary requirement in designing a successful future.

20 years MAZeT

In 1992, MAZeT GmbH was set up as an engineering consultancy for electronic design services in Erfurt with one business branch in Jena. The first years of company history were marked by the gathering of special know-how in industrial applications and medical devices. Consistent growth in sales over all of the company’s operating years and a consequential extension of its workforce testify to the company’s successful history. Since the foundation of the company many things have happened, changed and developed.

Some employees have followed the entire path and story of the combination of “Mikroeletronik” and of Carl Zeiss Jena towards the company foundation of MAZeT. CEO Dr. Fred Gruntert, who accompanies MAZeT since the early beginnings and is one of the main company drivers and founders, said: “As part of the SICAN network we gave our company a name and logo, which was to demonstrate that we were part of the SICAN network.” He continues: “We have experienced continuous growth and developed our own profile and more than ten years ago we were able to gain our largest customers as shareholders.”

With the new visual identity and slogan MAZeT wants to continue the success story and continue to be known for their expertise, high quality, first-class service, delivery reliability and customer friendliness.

LumaSense Introduces A New Line of Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) Monitors To Reduce Transformer Outages

LumaSense Technologies, Inc. introduced a new category of dissolved-gas analysis (DGA) monitors that allow electric utilities to more effectively reduce outages caused by faulty load tap changers (LTC”s) and transformers. At a cost significantly less expensive than comparable dissolved gas analysis monitors and a unique hardware design that drastically cuts down installation time, the LumaSense SmartDGA? platform ( http://www.lumasenseinc.com/EN/products/gas-monitoring/dga-for-transformers/smartdga.html ) can help utilities achieve widespread condition monitoring across generation, transmission and distribution assets.

Currently, less than 5 percent of transformers have condition-based online DGA monitoring systems, according to industry sources, and approximately 30 percent of all transformer failures in the United States are related to faulty LTCs. Widespread condition monitoring was unattainable using traditional technologies, largely due to high costs and excessive installation time.

Whereas other systems take days to install, LumaSense’s new dissolved gas analysis monitors (DGA) can be installed in a matter of hours. Additionally, SmartDGA monitors will cost up to 50-percent less than other monitors. The first monitor in the new line, the SmartDGA Gauge, will be the industry”s first dedicated online gas monitor for LTCs (Load Tap Changers). “We believe Smart Grid begins with an optimized supply network in the utility grid. This means having reliable assets in the generation, transmission and distribution networks globally,” said Vivek Joshi, LumaSense CEO. “The SmartDGA Gauge provides valuable information about load tap changers on a real-time basis, which is very important if we”re serious about bringing concepts like Smart Grid to reality.”

SmartDGA Gauge is the newest addition to LumaSense”s line of solutions designed to provide utilities more information about how their transformers are functioning to accurately identify and mitigate faults supporting e. g. continuous online condition monitoring for load tap changers (LTC), ability to find coking and other faults, hassle-free installation, no routine maintenance or calibration, no requirement for carrier gas, ability to monitor ethylene and acetylene to assess LTC health, vertical or horizontal mounting and installation on single valve, dual valve or inline with filtration system.

The SmartDGA platform ( http://www.smartdga.com ) uses non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensing technology. LumaSense has used NDIR technology in more than 400,000 instruments over the past 40 years. This extensive experience is coupled with a proprietary algorithm developed in accordance with recent utility standards to analyze and report LTC conditions. The SmartDGA Gauge requires no carrier gas, no frequent calibrations and can be easily retrofitted to LTC”s to provide asset condition status.

LumaSense also provides a range of fiber optic temperature sensors (LumaSMART? and LumaSHIELD?) used to monitor winding hot spots, and continuous thermal imaging systems (ThermalSpection?) that remotely monitor substations. Utilities can now deploy these complementary technologies from LumaSense to predict and correct faults as a part of utility Condition Based Maintenance programs.
