dotSaarland GmbH Applies for .SAARLAND – The Domain Extension for the Federal State Saarland

Posted on 30 May 2012 by PR-Gateway

The dotSaarland GmbH today successfully completed the application for the top level domain (TLD) .SAARLAND with ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers). ICANN will evaluate the application along all others during the next 4 to 8 months. The initial evaluations will start on July 12, 2012. In addition to the dotSaarland GmbH, more than 1200 entities submitted their applications for one or more new TLDs. With a batching process starting on June 8, 2012, ICANN will determine which TLD applications are reviewed first.

With web sites such as www.example.saarland online content may be tailored exactly to the Saarland region and the Saarland people. Regional offers will be easily found and can be placed precisely. As members of the non-profit dotSaarland Association, the federal state Saarland, the Saarland Chamber of Commerce (IHK) and the Chamber of Crafts (HWK Saarland) support the project for a Saarland domain extension. The delegation of .SAARLAND to the dotSaarland GmbH will take place earliest in winter 2012. In this case, it will be possible to pre-register and register .SAARLAND domains with accredited registrars as of spring 2013.

“We hope to launch .SAARLAND in the course of the next year. As a geographic TLD, which is fully supported by the federal state of Saarland, we expect an unobstructed evaluation by ICANN”, explains Alexander Siffrin, CEO of dotSAARLAND GmbH.

The date for the examination of the .SAARLAND application by ICANN will depend on the digital archery called batching procedure for new TLDs. Presumably around 2000 applications were submitted until today, therefore ICANN plans to review them in batches, the first batch being the largest with 500 and each subsequent containing 400 applications.

Digital archery means, that each applicant uses an online system to choose a date and time in the future, for example June 15, 2012, 8 am. The applicant logs in and clicks the submit button as accurately as possible. The closer the click is to the preselected time, the sooner will the application be reviewed. To ensure a fair process, ICANN distinguishes five geographical regions: Europe, Asia/Australia/Pacific, Latin America/Caribbean, Africa and North America respectively.

The dotSaarland GmbH (nic.saarland) will be the registry for .SAARLAND domains. After applying successfully at ICANN, nic.saarland will organize and manage .SAARLAND domain registrations in accordance with the ICANN regulations. The dotSaarland GmbH is member of the non-profit dotSaarland Association and supports its activities. The statute of dotSaarland GmbH guarantees the establishment of an advisory council to the Association. The advisory council allows social and economic institutions of the Saarland to participate in the design and development of the TLD .SAARLAND – in the interest of all users.

Further information about the dotSaarland GmbH and the domain extension .SAARLAND are found at www.nic-saarland.de.

Fresh breeze at the IFAT ENTSORGA 2012: HOK activated carbon based on lignite is an adsorption and catalyst material much in demand for sewage and waste-gas cleaning

Cologne. – Lignite from the Rhenish mining area is not only an indispensable fuel that contributes just under one quarter to Germany’s power generation. HOK activated carbon, exclusively made on the basis of Rhenish lignite, also serves to reduce emissions worldwide and, in doing so, also boosts environmental protection.

Its special properties in the separation of pollutants have made HOK activated lignite a much sought-after adsorption and catalyst material. Made by RWE Power AG on the basis of the natural product “lignite”, HOK is marketed worldwide by Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH (RBB) as a highly effective adsorbent.

Besides scrubbing waste gas in refuse incineration, one important use is the lowering of emissions in the iron and steel industry. One process usual there is the melting of iron and steel scrap processed in electric arc furnaces. In the thermal treatment of scrap contaminated with paints, oils and other organic substances, dioxins and furans emerge which need special reduction measures. Here, one of the simplest and at the same time least-cost scrubbing methods has turned out to be HOK-based adsorptive waste-gas cleaning in an entrained dust cloud.

HOK activated lignite for environmental protection worldwide

In the US, too, Rhenish activated lignite is making a contribution toward lowering airborne pollution. In addition to sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, mercury constitutes a special challenge for US power plants. In this sensitive area, too, “Activated Lignite HOK” has really proved its worth as effective adsorbent.

Biological sewage-treatment plants are another important field of application. These plants work on a kind of “manger” or feeding-trough principle with the activated lignite supplying nutrients and oxygen to the micro-organisms that are needed to combat the pollutants.

The separation products contained in the water and on which the micro-organisms feed occur in increased concentrations on the porous lignite particles. This prompts more micro-organisms to settle, thus accelerating the filtering process.

Interested trade visitors are cordially invited to meet representatives of Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH at this year’s IFAT ENTSORGA, held from 7 to 11 May 2012, fair stand 514, hall A3, to find out about the latest product solutions and application examples in filter and environmental technologies based on activated lignite.

Key-Systems to operate Registry System for TLD .dm

The DotDM Corporation, the official administrator for the top-level domain (TLD) of the Eastern Caribbean’s Commonwealth of Dominica .dm has partnered with German domain expert Key-Systems to provide a state-of-the-art registry platform. Using KSregistry, Key-Systems’ registration and management platform for registries, the new .dm registry platform will launch in the first quarter of 2012. Registrars interested in accreditation should contact the DotDM Corporation for further details per e-mail at admin@dotdm.dm.

St. Ingbert, 11-12-19. KSregistry provides the DotDM Corporation with comprehensive tools to facilitate .dm registrations at the registry, registrar and reseller levels. Key-Systems’ CEO Alexander Siffrin is pleased that the KSregistry system will serve as the technical basis for the .dm extension: “With KSregistry, DotDM Corporation has chosen a registry solution tailored to its needs. “We are pleased at the commitment that Key-Systems has given the DotDM Corporation towards positioning the DM Registry to better serve registrants and registrars in the future. We are excited at the new opportunities that KSregistry affords .dm towards showcasing and maximizing benefit to our nation”, said Jennifer Aird, CEO of the DotDM Corporation.

Taking advantage of the ICANN new gTLD program, companies and organizations can realize their own top-level domain such as .brand or .company. The KSregistry solution offers features and functions necessary for the operation of such a registry. As with .dm, registry requirements can be compiled in a package tailored to meet individual customer needs. This customer-specific solution is expandable to meet the changing needs of the client over time. By using Key-Systems’ own SkyWay DataCenter, fast reaction times and full process control are guaranteed.

Key-Systems has experience in operating registries and providing backend solutions. From 2002 until 2005 the registry for .cd, the top-level domain of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was operated by Key-Systems.

Key-Systems is an international IT company that currently manages more than 3 million domains for more than 70,000 retail/corporate customers and 1,800 resellers worldwide. The company with more than 60 employees is the second largest registrar for generic domains such as .COM or .NET in Europe and one of the 15 largest worldwide, in relation to the number of managed gTLD domain names (source: webhosting.info). 13th Asphalt and Bitumen Colloquium: Pulverized lignite is a low-cost fuel for the asphalt industry

Posted on 16 November 2011 by PR-Gateway

Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH presents innovative energy solutions at the “13th Asphalt and Bitumen Colloquium” in Slovenia

Cologne. – At the “13th Asphalt and Bitumen Colloquium” that will take place in Bled, Slovenia, on 24/25 November 2011, Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH (RBB) will present innovative energy concepts based on the use of pulverized lignite. RBB intends to expand international sales and acquire customers in Slovenia.

In the German asphalt industry, pulverized lignite has proven its reliability in more than 20 years of use, and today it is used in some 60 percent of all plants. The decisive advantages for the customers are long-term supply contracts that lead to a high degree of planning certainty and energy costs that are not tied to the volatile prices for petroleum products on the global market. “Not only is pulverized lignite much cheaper than fuel oil,” says Dipl.-Ing. Richard Dietze, responsible Head of Sales at RBB, “but the costs are also predictable in the long run because of the supply contracts.”

Pulverized lignite profits from price stability and high security of supply

Delivery by silo truck or railway tank wagon is cost-efficient even for long-distance transport, so that the range of customers is expanding more and more at the international level. Already, RBB is delivering pulverized lignite to plants in France, the Benelux countries, Poland and Rumania. In the future, RBB intends to add asphalt mixing plants in Slovenia to its range of customers. The required investments for the silo, dosing station and burner – some EUR 300,000 per plant – will in general amortize within about one year and will subsequently lead to significant cost savings.

RWE Power AG manufactures some 4 mill. tons of lignite products for industrial needs every year, marketed around the world by its subsidiary RBB. During the two-day event at Bled, the participants of the colloquium have the opportunity to obtain further information on the advantages of, and possible applications for, lignite as an energy carrier, as well as first-hand individual advice, at the RBB exhibition stand.

xyzmo wins 2011 Signature Verification Competition for Online Skilled Forgeries

xyzmo wins 2011 Signature Verification Competition for Online Skilled Forgeries

xyzmo won the SIGCOMP 2011 competition for online skilled forgeries with an accuracy of 96.27%, a false acceptance rate (FAR) of 3.70% and a false rejection rate (FRR) of 3.76%. The detailed results were presented at the IDCAR/AFHA2011 conference in Beijing, China September 18-21, 2011.

xyzmo, a world-leading e-signature provider, is pleased to announce that its signature verification solution won the 2011 IDCAR competition for online skilled forgeries. The challenge for e-signature solutions, particularly in customer-facing environments, is to replace pen-and-ink signing with something that provides the same sense of gravity and security as traditional wet signatures. Capturing handwritten signatures is the natural replacement, which everyone understands immediately, and it allows signers to feel comfortable with the process and provides a sense that digital signing is a serious event.

Signature Verification takes this approach one step further, and is the modern equivalent of traditional signature cards used in banks, for example, for subsequent identification of the customer by comparing the customer”s signature with the signature on the card.

Signature Verification authenticates the identity of individuals by measuring their captured handwritten signatures. The signature is treated as a series of movements that contain unique data, such as personal rhythm, acceleration and pressure. The basic idea behind Signature Verification is the transformation of natural hand fluctuations into a mathematical structure called a “personal profile”. This transformation is one-way only; hence, the hand (pen) movements can be transformed into a personal profile but the reverse operation is virtually impossible. Documents and transactions are only processed if their signers are authenticated and companies can thus prove who signed which document and when.

What results can be expected from online signature verification?
The systems participating in the IDCAR conference were evaluated by forensic experts using different testing sets. The task was to determine whether a particular signature had been written by the author of the reference signatures or if it had been forged by another writer. In all experiments, twelve known reference signatures were presented to the systems.
IDCAR evaluated the systems according to several measurements. They generated ROC-curves to see at which point an equal error rate was reached: i.e. the point where the false acceptance rate (forged signature being accepted as genuine) equals the false rejection rate (genuine signature being rejected). At this specific point they also measured the accuracy, i.e. the percentage of correct decisions with respect to all queried signatures.
The winner was the xyzmo solution, with an accuracy of 96.27%, a false acceptance rate (FAR) of 3.70% and a false rejection rate (FRR) of 3.76%. In comparison, the second best system had false acceptance and false rejection rates above 7%!

The field of electronic signature verification and authentication on a large scale is in its infancy, with such high-quality standards as those achieved by xyzmo being newly introduced to the market. Nevertheless, there are early adopters such as Tatra Banka, which authenticates all its customers in real time based on their handwritten electronic biometric signatures. This will become an interesting technology for banking and many other vertical markets over the next few years, and xyzmo is clearly in the leading position and ahead of the competition with the best and most advanced solution available.

xyzmo”s enterprise e-signature platform allows contracts, agreements, NDAs, forms, or any document that requires a signature, to be signed electronically on signature pads, payment terminals, the iPad, Android devices, with digital certificates or online via “click-to-sign”. It could not be easier or more secure. xyzmo is one of the world?s most complete, open and signature-pad-independent electronic signature software companies. Thanks to xyzmo”s signature solutions, stamping and signing remain as easy as ever, but are performed directly in the electronic document and can be integrated with any existing application or document workflow procedures. xyzmo SIGNificant is a private company based in Ansfelden, Austria, with international offices in the United States and Germany.
